As Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Kuwait, Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain, you have fulfilled a worthy representative duty, and now in the position of head of the Department of Special Sciences of the Diplomatic Academy at the University of world economy and diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you are sharing your rich experience with students, undergraduates.


I consider your important social activity, local diplomacy I would like to emphasize your sincere care to preserve and continue the rich traditions.

DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION VISITED UWED

On June 5, this year, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, visited the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

 

First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rector of UWED Sodyq Safoev, welcoming the head of the WTO, noted the importance of her visit against the backdrop of Uzbekistan’s desire to speed up the process of joining this authoritative international structure.

 

“The goals of the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan are fully consistent with the objectives of the WTO, which are aimed at promoting the sustainable development of countries and improving the well-being of their population through ensuring and expanding free and transparent trade relations,” he emphasized.

Safoev announced the decision of the Scientific Council of the UWED to award the title of honorary doctor of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy to the Director General of the WTO Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for his great scientific and practical contribution to the development of international economic relations.

 

In her speech, Okonjo-Iweala, touching upon the activities of the WTO department operating at UWED, noted the demand for joint research projects between the university and other institutions of the international organization’s network to address common trade issues and promote sustainable economic growth.

 

The head of the WTO highly praised the role of UWED in the network of departments of the World Trade Organization, pointing out the importance of academic cooperation in the formation of inclusive trade policy.

 

At the end of the meeting, a fruitful question and answer session with UWED students took place, which provided an invaluable opportunity for direct dialogue with the leadership of the WTO.

A MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION WAS SIGNED WITH THE MINISTRY OF DEFENSE OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

On May 22 of this year, a ceremony was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

 

The event was attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the rector of the UWED Sodyq Safoev, the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Shukhrat Halmukhamedov.

 

The memorandum, developed in order for the parties to achieve the objectives defined by law, provides for the support of interested relations and the further intensification of joint activities taking into account competencies.

 

Within the framework of cooperation, it is planned to comprehensively jointly study the main trends in foreign and domestic policies, socio-economic processes occurring in the world, and develop practical proposals and recommendations on this basis. In addition, it is planned to coordinate efforts in studying international experience in matters of ensuring the country’s national (military) security, increasing its defense capability, and implementing state policy in the areas of defense and military construction.

 

       The signed document provides for the organization and conduct of such events as scientific, practical and methodological conferences at the national and international levels, exchange of experience between experts and highly specialized specialists in the field of international relations, training, retraining and practical exercises with employees (scientific researchers).

The Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met representatives of the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute of Diplomatic Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

On May 23 of this year, a scientific and practical seminar was held on issues of cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy under the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies named after Prince Saud Al-Faisal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

The event was attended by a delegation from the Institute of Diplomatic Studies of Saudi Arabia, headed by the Director General of the Institute Dr. A. Al Omrani, representatives of the KSA Embassy in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, employees of the Diplomatic Academy at UWED, faculty and students of UWED.

 

During the seminar, a discussion of promising joint educational and scientific projects took place. Particular attention was paid to the issues of training and advanced training of diplomats. The possibilities of organizing Arabic language courses for students, conducting joint research on issues of common interest, and exchanging scientific publications were considered.

 

Along with this, issues of bilateral Uzbek-Saudi relations, in particular trade, economic and investment cooperation, were considered. The growing volume of Saudi Arabian investments in the economy of Uzbekistan has been noted, which is currently estimated at more than $30 billion.

 

In his concluding remarks, Dr. A. Al Omrani noted the high interest in partnership with Uzbek colleagues. “Our countries have a rich history of cooperation, and such contacts contribute not only to the exchange of knowledge, but also to the strengthening of friendly ties. We are pleased to have the opportunity to discuss current issues and prospects for joint projects,” he said.
