Afghanistan is taking water from the Amu Darya: what is the threat to Central Asia? Video bridge

news

The Astana-Tashkent video bridge on the impact of the construction of the Kush-Tepa canal in Afghanistan on the water supply situation in Central Asia and Kazakhstan has begun in the Sputnik Kazakhstan multimedia press center.

Afghanistan is rapidly digging the Kushtepa Canal, which will divert about a quarter of the annual flow of the Amu Darya River. The first section of 108 km of the planned 285 km has already been commissioned. At the same time, the Taliban are building a channel using outdated technologies. Accordingly, the actual water intake from the Amu Darya may be much higher than planned. How will this situation affect water management activities in Central Asia and Kazakhstan in particular? How much can this aggravate the already difficult situation associated with the lack of water in recent years?
How can the construction of this canal affect the fate of the Aral Sea? What can the countries of the region do to solve the impending problem? The participants of the meeting will answer these and other questions.
