Currently, Ismatulla Fayzullaev holds the position of Dean of the Diplomatic Academy's Faculty of Retraining and Advanced Training for Diplomatic Staff at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, MFA of Uzbekistan.

He served in the Republic of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs system from 1992 until 2024 in a number of capacities, including as the head of the Department for cooperation with the Americas and the Department for cooperation with the Asia and Africa.

He held several postings at the Republic of Uzbekistan's embassies abroad, including those in the USA and Canada (1996–1999 and 2002–2006), Pakistan (2009–2013), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (2016–2021), and represented Uzbekistan in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

He had previously worked in foreign missions of the USSR in Yemen (1979–1982), and Syria (1987–1990).

He has the Diplomatic Rank of First Class Counselor.
