A scientific-practical conference titled “Uzbek Diplomacy - a look at the formation of the Institute of Embassies” took place at the Diplomatic Academy at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on May 10, 2024, at the initiative of UWED Rector Sadyk S. Safoev, the conference was being held to organize educational organizations' activities based on cutting-edge foreign practices and to implement measures to deepen ongoing reforms in the field of education. Additional support specified in the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev dated 02.02.2024 No. PP-54 also was provided. This conference is a part of three that were held to further the development of scientific activities and hone the skills of the Academy's first graduates - masters. The conferences were titled "Soft Power in the Foreign Policy of Uzbekistan" (April 26, 2024) and "Stages and Prospects of a Truthful and Fair Solution to the Middle East Problem" (May 02, 2024). The meeting was open to masters from the Academy as well as Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and also UWED PhD students.

Professor A.A. Khaidarov, Director of the Academy, gave an introductory speech to kick off the conference, mentioning that despite being brought up during the independence era, the theme has not received enough attention and has not been represented at other scientific conferences. The meeting supported the remarks made by the Republic of Uzbekistan President Sh. Mirziyoyev, who stated that “Our ancestors sought to live in friendship and cooperation with near and far abroad with since time immemorial, the traditions of diplomacy have developed on the territory of our country.”

The conference's primary theme was our nation's rich past, specifically the affluent traditions and historical foundations of our diplomacy. The Academy's masters actually gave reports and presentations on their academic studies of Uzbek diplomacy's history, which spans from antiquity to the present and includes the establishment and growth of the country's independent diplomacy. The topics covered in the presentations included “Uzbek Diplomacy's Historical Foundations,” “Diplomacy of the Uzbek Khanates,” “Development of Diplomatic Relations under Amir Temur,” “Development of the Institute of Embassies in Central Asia,” “Baburid Diplomacy,” and “Modern Diplomacy of Uzbekistan.”

The participants of the conference were particularly interested in the speeches of masters Kholov Sukhrob, Abdullayeva Maftuna and Adilova Nargiza.

This conference was organized in the ligt of the guidelines of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.Mirziyoyeva on the need for a separate academic study of Uzbek diplomacy “Historical roots, specific processes of formation during the period of independence.” We hope that the materials prepared by the masters will be another step in studying the main stages of the formation and development of diplomacy in Uzbekistan.

At the end of the event, the participants exchanged views and made a proposal to hold a scientific and practical conference on the topic “Diplomacy of Uzbekistan: Yesterday and Today” jointly with the Diplomatic Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
