On 4 September 2026, a roundtable dedicated to the recent state visit of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to Uzbekistan was held in New Delhi. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in India jointly with the India-Central Asia Foundation (ICAF).

The event was attended by H.E. S. Rustambayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to India; Prof. A. Khaydarov, Director of the Diplomatic Academy under the University of World Economy and Diplomacy; Prof. R. Dwivedi, Director of ICAF and Head of the MERI Centre for International Studies; G. Sharma, former Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan, former Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs of India and Vice President of ICAF; as well as representatives of India’s expert and academic community.

During the roundtable, participants discussed the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Uzbekistan on 29–30 August 2026 and the prospects for further developing the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Prof. A. Khaydarov stated in his remarks that the state visit was a significant turning point in the evolution of Uzbek-Indian relations and demonstrated the increasing strategic significance of the two nations' alliance. The humanitarian and educational aspects of bilateral cooperation received special focus.
 
In this regard, Prof. A. Khaydarov highlighted the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Academy of Uzbekistan and the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, which creates new avenues for academic programs, seminars, professional training, experience sharing, and institutional cooperation.

Ambassador S. Rustambayev underlined the dynamic development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and India in the areas of economy, trade, healthcare, culture and education. Particular emphasis was placed on the task of increasing bilateral trade turnover to USD 5 billion by 2030.

In conclusion, the participants emphasized the importance of effectively implementing the agreements reached, expanding business, educational and technological exchanges, as well as developing cooperation in promising areas such as digital transformation, green energy, critical minerals and innovation. It was noted that further strengthening interaction between regions, universities, research institutions and business communities would contribute to elevating the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and India to a new level.
